IGCSE
At Ardingly Astana, pupils follow the Cambridge IGCSE programme in Years 10 and 11, forming the foundation of Key Stage 4. Over two years, pupils pursue a broad and intellectually rigorous curriculum, combining core disciplines with carefully selected options. The programme provides strong preparation for Cambridge International AS & A Levels and for entry to leading universities worldwide.
What is
IGCSE?
The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is the world’s most widely taken international qualification for pupils aged 14–16. Offered in more than 160 countries, it is recognised globally as a benchmark of academic achievement.
IGCSE combines strong subject knowledge with the development of skills needed for further study. Pupils learn to analyse information, think critically, solve problems, and communicate their ideas effectively. These skills help them succeed in further study and prepare for university pathways.
Assessment may include written examinations, coursework, practical tasks, and oral components, depending on the subject.
In Years 10 and 11, pupils study a core curriculum including English (First or Second Language, with English Literature as an option), Mathematics, the Sciences, a Modern Foreign Language, and Kazakh.
In addition, pupils choose up to three optional subjects and one reserve, allowing for both academic breadth and personal interest. Subject choices are made carefully, in consultation with parents and teachers.
Examination Board
Ardingly Astana delivers IGCSEs through Cambridge Assessment International Education, one of the world’s leading providers of international qualifications. Cambridge assessments are internationally benchmarked and recognised for their academic rigour and integrity.
Grading
IGCSE examinations are graded from A* (highest) to G, with U indicating an ungraded performance. In some subjects, pupils may be entered for either Core or Extended tiers. The choice of tier is made during the course, based on a pupil’s progress and academic readiness.
